Job Description

We are hiring a Director of Medical Services to oversee all aspects of the Nursing and Therapy and Related Services for an OPWDD Residential program.  The  director will be required supervise and ensure the quality performance of the Nursing Department’s daily operations, as well as coordinating and managing medical services to the individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities that reside in the residential facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Director of Medical Services is responsible to coordinate, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the nursing services department in accordance with OPWDD standards.
  • Oversee the interviewing process and selection of all nursing staff. With the Executive Program Director’s approval, participate in the selection process of related services providers.
  • nterview, orient and train RN Case Managers.
  • Provide direction, discipline and scheduling of medical department- consisting of nursing, dietitian, OT/PT/ST, doctors and personnel, evaluate and assess critical issues relating to health care of residents, implement medical/ nursing policy and procedure, oversee and provide AMAP, First-Aid, OSHA, Infection Control, and all medical trainings, ensuring all direct care staff receive the necessary trainings to provide appropriate care to individuals, coordinate with clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure maximum effectiveness of medical and health related aspects of the residential program.
  • Screen individuals for admission and placement in residential care.
  • Routine visits to residences to monitor nursing staff and conduct medical reviews to ensure quality of medical care provided.
  • Conduct annual clinical performance evaluations. Contributing member of Sub Incident Review and Human Rights Committees as well as OPWDD Region 5 Mortality Review Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing
  • NYS RN License
  • Experience with the OPWDD population
  • 10 years management experience
