What are we looking for in our Technical Designer?

Job Title: Junior Technical Designer (Intimates/Swim)
Location: 55 Water Street, New York, NY 10038, United States (Onsite 1-2 days / week)
Pay Rate: $40 - $46 / hour
W2 Contract duration: Nov 01, 2024 - Jan 31, 2025   

Overview:
We are seeking a Junior Technical Designer with 5-10 years of experience, preferably in swimwear and intimates, to join our team. This is an individual contributor role where you will own the technical design process from initial development to final fit, ensuring the product aligns with established quality, fit, and cost specifications. You’ll conduct fittings, make necessary adjustments with factories, and develop technical specifications for approval.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute the technical design process from development to final fit.
  • Analyze and evaluate garments to establish correct fit specifications.
  • Collaborate with design teams to ensure product consistency with fit, comfort, and quality standards.
  • Develop and communicate fit comments and pattern corrections to vendors/factories.
  • Conduct fittings independently, providing feedback and adjustments to ensure design intent.
  • Collaborate with manufacturers to ensure design-approved prototypes meet quality and cost targets.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of technical design experience, preferably in intimates and/or swimwear.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent fittings and make necessary adjustments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience with technical tools such as Excel, Illustrator, and Flex PLM.
  • Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams to resolve fit and design challenges.
  • Experience working with plus-size garments is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and flexibility.
  • Able to maintain composure in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Expertise in writing fit comments and collaborating with teams to ensure design objectives are met.
  • Familiarity with Centric PLM systems is preferred.

Additional Information:

  • Must be able to work onsite for fittings (1-2 times per week in office).
  • Candidates who have managed large teams or have primarily focused on non-technical roles will not be considered.
  • We are looking for someone who is adaptable and willing to work under management for the long term.
  • Previous community service or volunteer experience is a plus.
