Plant Engineer
What are we looking for in our Plant Engineer?
Russell Tobin and Associates is actively seeking a Plant Engineer to work for our client, a global leader in chemical manufacturing, to work onsite at their facility in the Torrence/Hawthorne area.
Job Title: Plant Engineer
Pay: $115k-$150k/year
Job Type: Full time, permanent
Summary: The Plant Engineer will assume leadership of both the Engineering and Maintenance teams, playing a critical role in supporting plant operations and ensuring alignment with engineering standards, project execution, and maintenance systems in accordance with plant and corporate objectives. This position is also responsible for the development, maintenance, and execution of the capital project portfolio.
Reports to: Plant Manager
Essential Functions:

Team Leadership: Oversee performance management responsibilities including recruitment, coaching, disciplinary actions, performance reviews, team development, and personnel growth for the Engineering and Maintenance Department.

Safety Focus: Foster a safety-first environment, emphasizing the development, enhancement, and adherence to safe work practices and regulatory compliance.

Goal Alignment: Establish departmental objectives for the Engineering and Maintenance teams that align with corporate and plant strategic goals.

Engineering and Maintenance Services: Provide engineering and maintenance support to ensure the continued operational readiness of plant equipment.

Capital Project Management: Develop, maintain, and execute the capital project portfolio aimed at meeting short-term and long-term plant objectives.

Project Execution: Lead capital projects, encompassing project design, scope development, equipment specification, cost estimation, installation, commissioning, and project closure activities.

Preventative Maintenance: Develop, implement, and maintain a preventative maintenance system in accordance with corporate reliability standards.

Procedure Management: Review, develop, and update maintenance, engineering, and project management procedures.

Training Programs: Implement training and recertification programs for engineering and maintenance personnel.

Change Management: Lead change management initiatives, process hazard analyses, and project reviews.

Collaboration: Collaborate with plant and corporate teams to evaluate safety, quality, cost performance, service, and productivity-related issues, ensuring effective corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.

Budget Management: Manage departmental expenditures (labor, overtime, services, and supplies) in line with budgetary constraints.

Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as delegated by management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Over 5 years of Engineering/Maintenance management experience.
- Strong leadership abilities and a solid understanding of chemical manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in project management with a track record of managing and commissioning capital projects exceeding $1 million.
- Proven experience in implementing change initiatives and designing processes, such as mechanical integrity, project management, and equipment design.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement tools such as 5S and lean techniques.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management standards.
- Effective communication and interpersonal/organizational skills.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for equipment and systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office and AutoCAD.
- Availability to support a plant on a 24/7 basis and provide after-hours support when necessary.
Strongly Preferred:
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Familiarity with Wonderware, PLC, and automation systems.
- Project Management Certification.
