Emissions & Sustainability Data Lead

What are we looking for in our Emissions & Sustainability Data Lead?

HYBRID WORKING

I have partnered with a leading Aviation business in finding them a data lead to review their sustainability and emissions

Principal Accountabilities

  • Act as the carbon and sustainability data SME, setting the required standards for emissions and sustainability data working with the business and third party data providers to gather and collate that data to produce monthly and annual reporting and ad hoc reports as needed.
  • Formalise and maintain the company’s Quality Management System for emissions and sustainability data, ensuring that there are clear written processes and standards governing the generation and collection of data. (This accountability involves working closely with the Finance Department to ensure that the system meets the appropriate controls for data inclusion in the Annual Report, and also with the Business's Assurance team to ensure alignment with their approach to management systems.)
  • Lead the process to produce and assure an annual carbon footprint and suite of sustainability data for inclusion in the company’s Annual Report and Accounts, ensuring these meet the latest UK statutory disclosure requirements as well as relevant international accounting standards and broader investor expectations.
  • Manage the annual external assurance and verification process of emissions and sustainability data.
  • Lead the process to produce a high quality and accessible monthly carbon and sustainability dashboard for the Executive Committee, and a quarterly dashboard for the Board’s Sustainability & Operational Risk Committee and for the Board itself.
  • Provide analysis to enable to the business to understand the drivers of performance trends, to project likely future performance (12 months ahead) to ensure the business use the optimum suite of tools and technologies in data analytics to inform delivery of its net zero and sustainability objectives.
  • Produce reports and commentary as required on e.g. Top 10 KPIs, senior management incentive schemes etc
  • Maintain an up to date understanding of the maturity of carbon and sustainability data, based on professional expertise and input from external advisors and assurers, and identify key areas for improvement, working closely with the Programme and other business functions to develop and implement solutions to improve data accuracy, automation and frequency.
  • Provide data-driven support to delivery of carbon and sustainability strategy, working with the Programme team and other teams across solutions and operations on the plans and management processes to turn the strategy into operational delivery, and responding to other incoming data requests.
  • Build and regularly interact with a wide internal and external network of data specialists and analysts to ensure the sustainability team is accessing latest thinking and able to draw on specific expertise as required.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Essential

  • 5+ years’ experience in relevant data roles, and ideally some experience of working with sustainability data in a corporate environment or at least, an interest and passion in Sustainability.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent essential with further post graduate qualifications desirable.
  • Proven ability to drive value through data, from analysis and modelling to visualisation and storytelling.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and able to break down complex issues in a structured and logical manner with conclusions being supported by data and facts.
  • Proven ability to engage and influence at senior levels both internally and externally.
  • Knowledge and experience of data science methods, tools, and languages, including machine learning, R/Python, SQL, and Power BI.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication, presentation and influencing skills and able to deliver activities by working with colleagues across the business and its partners.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with strong organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Experience with internal and external assurance of sustainability data.
  • The ideal candidate would combine knowledge and skills in data with the same in sustainability.
  • Strong understanding of the sustainability issues facing the Aviation sector
