What are we looking for in our Technical Writer ?
Russell Tobin + Associates is currently seeking a Technical Writer. This is a 6-month contract with potential for extension/conversion for successful contractors!
Contract position is remote in the U.S. but 50% domestic travel is required.
Job Title: Technical Writer
Pay: $36.00 - 38.86/hour (based upon experience)
Duration: 6-months
Schedule: 40hrs/week // Flexible schedule
Location: Remote - 50% travel required (travel will be in LA, OH, and MA)
Join our client's Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging (MSP) Customer Experience team and be at the forefront of automation technology. This role involves creating technical documentation for groundbreaking robotic and automated systems, ensuring that our client's Operations Associates and Maintenance Technicians can seamlessly operate and maintain new technologies. You'll help convert “stand-alone work-cells” into “end-to-end integrated solutions” that are safe, user-friendly, and efficient.
Our client is looking for an experienced Technical Writer who will play a vital role in the development, deployment, and support of advanced MSP technologies in their fulfillment centers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to identify learning objectives and capture essential information.
- Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including standard operation procedures, troubleshooting guides, and manuals for alpha and beta testing phases.
- Design and develop interactive learning solutions such as e-learning modules, instructor-led training, job-aids, and videos.
- Ensure that learning solutions align with the organization’s goals and performance objectives.
- Conduct needs analysis and apply instructional design principles to develop engaging content for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of learning materials and iterate for continuous improvement.
- Work independently to manage project timelines, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality content.
- Apply content reuse and localization strategies for global scalability.
- Establish and maintain standard style guides.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of direct technical writing experience, ideally in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Visio, Articulate 360, Microsoft SharePoint, or similar tools.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design models.
- Experience evaluating the effectiveness of learning solutions and implementing data-driven improvements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Instructional Design, Education Technology, or related field.
- Experience with Xyleme (LCMS).
- Industry certifications in instructional design, curriculum development, or project management.
- Demonstrated ability to simplify technical information into clear, user-friendly content.
Key Skills Required:
- Technical Writing Skills – 5+ years of experience, preferably in a manufacturing or technical environment.
- Communication with Stakeholders – Ability to work closely with SMEs to capture technical details and translate them into operational content.
- Content Development and Management – Expertise in organizing information for various audiences and applying reuse strategies for scalability.
