Job Description

Position Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Function as recognized leader of trans-disciplinary healthcare team.
  • Provide admission history and physical examinations.
  • Write orders for medication and therapy.
  • Evaluate patients and review orders on monthly basis.
  • Provide evaluations and order medications, treatments, and/or referrals for acute illness.
  • Provide appropriate documentation of problems, assessments, and therapies, and responses to therapies.
  • Maintain progress notes that are pertinent for residents condition and current status and goals.
  • Provide comprehensive discharge summaries where indicated.
  • Order and review laboratory testing.
  • Order and review consultations.
  • Participate in Center Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities.
  • Serve on medical staff and Center wide committees.
  • Participate in Plan of Care meetings and Center-wide and neighborhood based Clinical Status meetings.
  • Consult with parents/guardians on regular basis.
  • Work effectively as member of interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide telephone and in-person weekend and holiday coveragein rotation with medical staff.
  • Spend time at Center during unscheduled times, as needed.
  • Arrange for appropriate coverage and care of residents when not physically at the Center.
  • Care for dying children at the Center.
  • Serve as liaison between Pediatric Center and acute care facilities.
  • Collaborate with Nurse Practitioners in care of residents.
  • Supervise Pediatric and Med-Peds residents.
  • Supervise Palliative Care Fellows.
  • Supervise Medical, NP, and PA Students.
  • Maintain knowledge base through continuing education programs.
  • Take active role in Center education programs.
  • Abide by Pediatric Center and medical staff policies and procedures and act in accordance with the mission statement.
  • Other duties as requested by Chief Medical Officer and/or Executive Director.

Required Skills

Education Requirements:

  • MD/DO Degree
  • Successful completion of accredited residency in Pediatrics or Family Practice
  • Board eligibility/certification in Pediatrics or Family Practice is required
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, mechanical ventilators
  • DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) Certification is required
