Title: Accounts Payable Supervisor

Functional Unit: Finance

Reporting to: Comptroller

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the comptroller, the Accounts Payable Supervisor plans and directs accounting activities within the finance unit.  In addition to following the organizations values and core mission, the supervisor must have the ability to function as a resourceful team-player, who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, while remaining flexible, proactive, and efficient. This position requires the abilities to work independently, pay attention to details, maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities, and exercise good judgment in a variety of situations. This position will require flexibility in work schedule as needed.  The supervisor will be performing the following duties, personally or through subordinate supervisors.


  • Maintains Accounts Payable records.
  • Regulates and organize accounts payable techniques and all accounting events.
  • Ensures the proper organization of vendor payments in conformity with the company’s allocation guidelines, and routine standard principles and controls.
  • Performs and/or supervises the examination of all bills, receipts, and purchase order before vouchers are prepared.
  • Performs and/or supervises the preparation of checks for vendors and other expenses.
  • Assists in the preparation of audit work papers related to accounts payable cycle.
  • Assists in monitoring budgeted verses actual expenses for the entire corporation.
  • Monitors, distribute and reconcile Corporation’s petty cash per unit/department.
  • Assists in the preparation of expense reports and other funding agencies report(s).
  • Assists the Controller and Chief Financial Officer with special projects as needed.


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field from four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as accounts payable supervisor;
  • Experience collaborating with teams.
  • Plan, organize, administer, review and evaluate the work of others; select, train, and motivate assigned staff.
  • Be familiar with common financial application software or experience in using automated accounts payable and disbursement system.
  • Read, analyze and interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
